The Tragic Story of Nengmy Vang

On March 22, 2017, communities in the Wausau, Wisconsin area were shaken by a tragedy that left four innocent people dead. Authorities identified 45-year-old Nengmy Vang as the man responsible for a series of shootings in Rothschild, Schofield, and Weston. The violence unfolded amid a difficult divorce between Vang and his estranged wife. The victims were Marathon Savings Bank employees Dianne Look, 67, and Karen Barclay, 62; attorney Sara Quirt Sann, 43; and Everest Metro Police Detective Jason Weiland, 40. Quirt Sann was representing Vang’s wife during their divorce proceedings, while Detective Weiland was killed while responding to the unfolding emergency. The incident ended after an hours-long standoff at Vang’s apartment in Weston. Vang was seriously wounded during the confrontation with law enforcement and later died from his injuries.
